....memories of the Delhi winter take me to IIT days, two things sticking out in mind. First, that sweet aroma; the aroma which accompanies the onset of winter and which is most prominent during early evenings. I’m told that it’s caused by the composting of fallen leaves. And second: the memory of Jackets. Now IIT is not a place renowned for its fashion quotient. So when things frosted down to the peak weeks of winter, most of us had only one jacket to see us through. And in this manner, winter brought along a sort of familiarity to the campus. Guys were recognisable from afar, from behind, and even when in partial view. Come to think of it, aren’t these those same attributes that reunions are renowned for? Ravishing the smell of decay, and finding comfort in familiarity.
